The 1999 "New and
Improved" version of the original Super Soaker SS 100 is supposedly sturdier than its
original counterpart, yet still feels rather fragile. The amount of water carried
by the "New and Improved" SS 100 is respectable and its water use to capacity ratio is low due to
the original-sized nozzle. It is also based on the separate air-pressure
chamber allowing one to make full use of the water reservoir. However, the pump
volume is quite small. The barrel of the "New and Improved" SS 100 is very long, but does not feel
as if it were securely attached, making it definitely not a blaster one wants
to fall on or drop. The "New and Improved" SS 100 also keeps firing a few moments after releasing
the trigger, wasting some valuable ammunition.
All-in-all, the "New and Improved" Super Soaker SS100 can only be classified as a light assault rifle. Improved
for 1999, this weapon really only outclasses the smaller water blasters
such as the Super Soaker SS 50 and Super Soaker XP 20. This blaster should be handled with care and used
only for back-up or for small water fights. Other than that, its just nice to
have a reminder of days gone by.
Pros
Light for its size, easy to carry. Rate of fire-to-water supply ratio quite
good and can last a fairly long time (though water yield is low). This is one
of the weapons which helped change water war forever.
Cons
Fragile, has a tendency to leak, especially if the O-ring is damaged or loose.
Nozzle size is significantly smaller than the newer weapons and range is more
limited. The pumping mechanism is also somewhat fragile. (Don't force it to
hard or it will break.)
