iS SuperSoaker maxd5000_02tbThe Super Soaker Max-D 5000 is the second largest of the Max-D line released for 2002. While it appears to be based superficially on the Super Soaker XP 270's design, the blaster is actually rather different. The bulb near to the nozzle of the blaster is for styling purposes only and is not a separate pressure chamber for water. Instead, the Max-D 5000 is based on the pressurized reservoir system meaning that the pump moves air and that the cap must be secured in order to build up pressure in the reservoir.

iS SuperSoaker maxd5000_11tbThe Max-D 5000's reservoir, itself, holds a respectable amount of water and is translucent, allowing water levels to be easily determined. However, while it holds nearly the same amount of water as the Super Soaker XP 270 holds, it should be noted for the best performance, the reservoir should only be filled approximately 70% of full (~840mL). The reservoir is filled through a tethered-cap opening. The pressurized water is fed to the nozzle via an intake tube inside the reservoir that is similar in design to the intake tube found on the Super Soaker SC 400. The trigger system on the Max-D 5000 is different than the XP series in that it clicks when the nozzle opens and closes. This means there is virtually no time in which the nozzle is only partially open allowing for a nice burst of water emerging from the opening. The stream produced is quite strong despite being from a pressurized reservoir system.

Decent as a primary weapon, the Super Soaker Max-D 5000 is perfect for small to medium skirmishes and can hold awhile in large ones. Just beware of any CPS-class weaponry as well as large XPs and XXPs.

Pros

Nice size, light, easy to carry. Despite its size, it packs respectable power. The reservoir provides a respectable amount of water considering its rate of fire. Easy to fill with a nice, tethered cap.

Cons

This is a pressurized reservoir-based blaster (the bulb at the front of the blaster is ornamental only). As such, the blaster cannot be refilled when pressurized. No strap. The grip by the trigger is a little short meaning that large hands will not fit completely within the trigger-guard area.

Review:This is an excellent value medium-sized blaster. My only complaint is that the trigger will cause some discomfort after a prolonged engagement...bring a band-aid!
