The Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast is one of the new models released for 2011. While being a piston-based pumper, the Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast is named for its multiple-nozzle design that pushes out a 5-pronged spreading volley of water.

The Blaster ::

Nozzle ::

The Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast features a unique set of nozzles: 5 nozzle openings set in a radial / star-shaped pattern. Pushing water through them via the pump results in five separate streams being created, speading out slightly from center. The end result is a target within range gets hit with five streams, increasing the area soaked. However, being pump-based, the amount of water pushed is completely dependant on pump volume which, unfortunately, is not that large.

Pump ::

The Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast features a semi-tracked pump. The pump grip area is chunky and feels quite comfortable to hold; its vertical ridges offer good traction when pumping. Pumping is smooth, though oddly pumping seems to result in a little noise generation from the reservoir cap. Sadly, the amount of water pushed per pump leave more to be desired. The older Super Soaker Aquashock Sneak Attack pushed out over twice the volume of water that the Scatter Blast can.

Grip ::

The trigger and grip area on the Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast, like the rest of the blaster, are well moulded and quite comfortable to hold. It appears that Hasbro Inc. spent a good amount of time refining their triggers and grips. The grip is also nicely in line with the pump allowing one to put one's full force into pumping.

The Reservoir ::

The reservoir on the Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast occupies the bulk of this blaster. Being a slimmer design, volume is still rather good, especially considering that one can get over 40 full shots from a full tank. However, as noted above, the reservoir cap does make a little more noise than expected when pumping which is a little odd considering the cap's placement. The cap, though, is nicely tethered, attaching and being removed with ease.

Overall ::

As a whole, the Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast is a solid blaster with promise, but falls a little short on available power. Its 5 nozzle design creates blasts that cover more area, but since its pump volme is rather low, the amount of overall soaking possible per shot is limited. The Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast likely performs best in smaller skirmishes or as a back-up or alternate-spray pattern blaster paired with a larger, pressurized water blaster. If being used as a primary, avoid any similarly sized or larger pressurized water blaster.

Pros

Nice styling, sturdy build, and smooth pump. Nozzles blasts able to cover a good area. Decent amount of water available in its reservoir for a blaster its size.

Cons

Limited pump volume means limited soaking capabilities. Range more limited since each individual stream is thinner.
